Memorial Day
:: Memorial Day ::
Memorial Day in the United States started in the year after the end of the Civil War as "Decoration Day". A day to remember those who died during the Civil War. It has evolved since then into a weekend to remember those who have died in defense of our country. While most (including us) celebrate with picnics and family gathering I always think it is so important to take time and remember those made the ultimate sacrifice. The girls are too young yet to fully understand the meaning of the holiday but I try and take time to sit and meditate on the meaning of sacrifice. Only since adulthood and the marriage to my husband have I become acutely aware of defending ones country. I know that as long as my husband wears the uniform he will be asked by his country to defend her beautiful shores. I know that he would willing do what is asked of him. I know my sister military wives who have lost their spouses, mothers and fathers who lost their sons/daughters. And for those who have faced this heartbreak of losing a loved one, a part of my heart is with them this day and every day.

Thank you for sharing. I will be thinking of all of those that have stood up for your country. In a way, when they stand up for yours, they also stand up for ours. xo
