July: Yarn Along

:: July-Yarn Along ::

We just went to the library yesterday and all of my hold items were ready for pick-up. It was like Christmas! I got four new cookbooks that are cookbooks that I have been eyeing for a while but I hate to buy one if I don't use it enough. Space and Money are precious so I like to preview them through the library. I can't wait to dive in and find some new recipes. I also got the newest Ann Cleeves novel, Silent Voices. ( A Vera Stanhope mystery). I recently finished Once Upon a River by Bonnie Jo Campbell. I finished it in a record of two days. It was gritty and rough like the books, True Grit or A Winter's Bone. A great read if you like those books.

I finished a diaper cover-up for our little one. It is so cute and just  the perfect size for our little guy. I am finishing up my shawl and I am hoping to block it this week. I am starting two new projects this week. A Tiny Tea Leaves Cardigan and Beech Cowl

  2. That is an impressive stack of books. I am with you on not having cookbooks if they aren't going to be used. I had a collection of over 100 cookbooks that I have slowly been whittling down, I want the space.

    The little diaper cover is cute, cute, cute!

  8. I've not knit a diaper cover...yet. It's on my list, though. Maybe this fall. Love your yarn colors and that stack of books...how sweet to be able to borrow so many! I am with you on the cookbooks; we've whittled our collection down to the ones we actually use. Happy reading/cooking/knitting!

  10. You asked about Mary Coin... I liked it, but found it tedious. It just never really "grabbed" me. It could be the time in life that I read it (busy days, sleepless nights, etc), could be the general story telling, could be lots of things. I liked the peek into a "what if" regarding the two women but wished that they had been the ACTUAL women (migrant mother and Dorthea Lange) instead of fictional women. I found that confusing. Still, for such a well known story, our book club had a lot to chat about because it segued nicely into personal stories and anecdotes. I'd say give it a go... but be sure to let me know how you liked it!
