This Moment

:: This Moment ::

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember

My knitting has been traveling quite a bit this week. We went to the beach over the weekend to enjoy the warm weather and James' basketweave scarf went with us. It was kind of fun to knit on the beach. At home. the weather has been lovely so we have spent many hours outside. I am finishing up the Heirloom Baby Sweater for my youngest one. I started the Milo Sweater Vest for my eldest gal. I really love knitting this vest. It is a lot easier than I had thought. I made a lot of progress last night while watching Election coverage.

I am still reading The Widow's Daughter, it is an interesting read and I think the most dramatic parts are yet to come. I also just picked up Light Between Oceans. It seems a bit tragic but we'll see how it turns out.

What are you knitting?

Happy Knitting!

Minding My Monday

:: Minding My Monday ::

A busy day of work has made the day slip away from me. Here's a little peek at the morning before things got hectic. I have been making lists lately, lots of lists. Lists always make me feel better because I can see everything that is swirling around in my brain on paper in nice little rows. I have lists for Thanksgiving, Christmas, gifts to make, gifts to buy, and things to make. Slow and steady wins the race.

Right now, I have a lengthy kitchen list of herbal remedies and yummy healthy snacks for the girls. I am looking forward to spending some quality time with my kitchen in the next couple nights.

Crafting with Kids

Luminaries

I have started this new page to share some crafts that we do at home. We just made some luminaries for the table. They don't give off a lot of light but it creates a nice warm autumn feel. Enjoy!

October 2012 001

Supplies:

* warm color cardstock

* small squares of tissue paper ( colored)

* scissors and X-acto knife ( optional)

* 2 clothespins

* heavy duty glue ( I use Mod Podge)

* thin tissue paper or tracing paper ( white)

* gluesticks

* pen

* cottage window template or any template of your liking

October 2012 002

Trace cottage window templates onto cardstock ( above) and I am doing this on a cutting board because the X-acto knife is sharp.

Cut out the cottage windows

October 2012 004

Place the tracing or tissue paper on top of the cutout cardstock.

October 2012 006

Glue the pieces of tissue paper onto the tracing paper using the cutouts below the tracing paper as a guide. You want to make sure that you cover the whole area of cutout so that it will be colorful. Then flip the tracing paper sheet so that the tissue paper is facing out the cottage window.

October 2012 007

Roll the cardstock and glue all layers. Use the pins as clamps until the luminaries are dry.

October 2012 010

I use battery operated tealights because I think paper and open flame are a bit dangerous!

If you have any questions about the craft or how to make it, feel free to leave a comment and I'll try to help you.

Sunday along the Shoreline

:: Sunday Along the Shoreline ::

Did you ever one of those moments where you stop thinking about everything and just breathe? That was today at the shore. I found myself lost in the moment. There were no worries, tasks, or thoughts that demanded my attention. I was sitting there with the sun shining on my face and breathing the fresh sea air as the girls played. A Buddhist I met a few months back said that these moments where a type of meditation when as she put it, " the mind monkeys are gone". I would love to bottle up these moments and pull them out when I am particularly frazzled or worried about things. Ever since we had children, my husband and I have learned to slow down and just exist in the moment. Those moments are what enriches our lives and creates a meaningful life.
